When Abram was ninety-nine years old, God appeared to him again and said, “I am God Almighty.” God called Abram to walk with Him and do what was right, and He made an everlasting covenant with him. God promised that Abram would become the father of many people, more than could be counted, like the stars in the sky. God also gave him a new name: Abraham, meaning “father of many.” God told Abraham that he and Sarah would have a baby boy, and they were to name him Isaac. Abraham heard this wonderful promise and laughed with surprise and joy. God gave Abraham’s family a special sign to help them remember His covenant. Abraham obeyed right away, because he trusted that God would keep His promise.
God gave Abram the new name “Abraham” and gave him a promise that seemed hard to believe but would surely come true. Abraham heard God’s words and, even though he was amazed, chose to trust and obey right away. This story reminds us that God is almighty and faithful, and His word is always trustworthy. When God leads us through His word, we can respond with faith and obey Him step by step.
