John teaches believers how to tell true and false spirits apart, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. He goes on to remind us that God Himself is love, and that God sent His one and only Son into the world as the sacrifice for our sins. In love there is no fear: God's perfect love drives every fear away.
God is the source of love, and He took the first step to send Jesus into the world to save us — this is the greatest expression of love. When we truly understand how much God loves us, the fear and anxiety in our hearts will disappear, because perfect love drives all fear away. John also reminds us to have wisdom to discern, because not every teaching that claims to come from God is true. Let us live in God's love, and use this love to love everyone around us.
